WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) today voted against the flawed Road to Housing Act to protect Americans from federal overreach and stand for real affordable housing solutions.
"Americans need more affordable housing. Unfortunately, this bill doesn't do enough to provide it, instead increasing the federal government's long-running and failed involvement in the U.S. housing market," said Senator Mike Lee. "Notably, the bill does not do nearly enough to safeguard housing programs for American citizens only. Additionally, the bill includes only a temporary ban on a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) rather than a permanent one, while failing to prohibit any future administration from trampling state and local authorities for social engineering like the Biden and Obama administrations. The process to fix this bill has been nonexistent, with no amendment votes in the Senate. We can do better. To truly improve housing affordability, we must drastically reduce the federal government's footprint in housing policy, cut federal spending to reduce federal debt, which in turn can lower mortgage interest rates, and continue mass deportations of illegal aliens who are placing a significant burden on housing availability and affordability for American citizens."
