Spirit Airlines Announces Retirement of John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning

DANIA BEACH, Fla., Aug. 18, 2025 - Spirit Airlines (NYSE American: FLYY) today announced that John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning, will retire from the airline at the end of the month following a distinguished aviation career spanning more than 40 years.

"On behalf of the entire Spirit Team, we extend our sincere gratitude to John for his service and leadership at the company," said Rana Ghosh, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Spirit Airlines. "John is an incredible partner who has played a pivotal role in shaping Spirit's network and has dedicated more than four decades to the industry. As we celebrate John's retirement, we are also in the process of selecting his successor to ensure a seamless transition."

Kirby has been at the helm of leading long-term network strategy, commercial fleet planning, and schedule planning and distribution across seven major U.S. airlines, all while building long-lasting relationships and a reputation for innovation and success. He joined Spirit as a well-regarded industry veteran to lead the airline through a network expansion in 2018. During his more than six-year tenure as VP of Network Planning, Kirby grew Spirit's position at its hometown airport, Fort Lauderdale (FLL), ultimately establishing it as the dominant carrier. Prior to joining Spirit, Kirby held multiple leadership roles at other airlines, including Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways, and made significant contributions to the aviation industry.

"The aviation industry is magical, and I've had a great time exploring the world and connecting people and places for the past 42 years," Kirby said. "While I love this business, it's the incredible people I've met along the way that have made it such a special experience. I'm grateful to all my friends and colleagues, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for the industry."

Kirby retires from his accomplished aviation career alongside his wife Libby, and two adult children Kayla and Mitchell.
