Riders can expect adjustments to frequency, introduction of new lines, or elimination of service
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) is issuing an alert to its 3 million monthly riders - especially those preparing for back-to-school or gearing up for the new work week - regarding sweeping changes to nearly 85% of bus lines, effective today, August 10.
Under Realign Service Changes, AC Transit's all-new bus network will impact 104 bus lines operating from Richmond to Fremont. Shaped by two years of rider feedback, in-depth analysis, and equity, Realign is an ambitious effort to right-size the bus network in response to hybrid and remote work trends, changing ridership patterns, and ongoing fiscal challenges.
The impacts vary by bus line and include:
Major improvements are underway at more than 1,500 bus stops. Riders will see new bus stop flags and decals, along with clearly marked bags indicating whether a stop serves a new or existing line. In addition, zip-tied pole signs will offer detailed, stop-specific information to help guide riders through the Realign transition.
