Mississippi Democrats Break Republican Supermajority in State Senate Arrow

Democrats flipped SD-02, SD-45, and HD-22

Last night, Mississippi Democratic candidates Theresa Isom, Reginald Jackson, Johnny DuPree, and Justin Crosby won state legislative elections in SD-02, SD-11, SD-45, and HD-22, respectively. With these victories, Democrats picked up two seats in the state Senate, ending the GOP's Supermajority in the Mississippi Senate. Mississippi Democrats have now meaningfully expanded their power in the state - a central tenet of Chair Ken Martin's mission to compete everywhere.

Across the state, Mississippi Democrats presented a positive vision for the future. Democrats are fighting to lower costs for Mississippi families, create jobs, and protect health care and rural hospitals. In stark contrast, Republicans were dragged down by Donald Trump's toxic agenda, under which over 100,000 Mississippi families will lose health insurance, and eight rural hospitals are pushed to the brink of closure.

In response to these victories, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"Senators-elect Isom, Jackson, and DuPree and Representative-elect Crosby ran smart campaigns focused on the issues that matter most to Mississippi families. Democrats are fighting to lower costs, create jobs, protect health care, and make sure our kids have a bright future. Meanwhile, Mississippi Republicans continue to bend the knee to Donald Trump, even as it means over 100,000 families in the state will lose their health insurance, and rural hospitals will close. Tonight's results are a clear sign that when Democrats organize everywhere, we can win anywhere, including the Deep South. We are going to keep investing in Mississippi and other so-called red states so that we can rebuild Democratic infrastructure and regain power across the country - in the 2026 midterms and beyond."
