Krishnamoorthi: After Gutting Anti-Hunger Programs, Trump Now Cancels Report Tracking Hungry Americans

SCHAUMBURG, IL - Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) today condemned the Trump Administration for scrapping the USDA's Household Food Security Report, a vital tool for tracking hunger in America. In July's "Large Lousy Law" budget, Republicans cut more than $186 billion from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the nation's largest anti-hunger program, and now the Trump Administration has cancelled the annual Department of Agriculture Report that shows how many Americans are going hungry.

"In July's Large Lousy Law, Republicans gutted the very program that helps families put food on the table, and now the Trump Administration has cancelled the annual report that shows how many Americans are going hungry," said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. "As someone who learned firsthand as a child the difference anti-hunger programs make for families working to get back on their feet, I know what is at stake. Turning a blind eye to hungry children doesn't make the problem go away-it only leaves struggling families invisible and without the support they deserve. As rising costs in the Trump economy push more families to the brink, we need to restore SNAP funding and guarantee the best data to meet the needs of seniors and working families."
