Mayor Yemi Mobolade presents 2026 balanced budget centered on fiscal stewardship and core city services

Mayor Yemi Mobolade today presented the City of Colorado Springs' proposed 2026 Budget to City Council, a balanced and responsible plan that emphasizes fiscal stewardship, essential services, and long-term stability.

The $427.3 million General Fund budget represents an $11 million, or 2.5%, decrease from 2025, and remains balanced without drawing from reserves. To offset rising costs in contracts, health care, and other obligations, City departments identified $31 million in savings through operational efficiencies and targeted reductions.

"As a fiscally conservative city, we are guided by discipline and focus on what matters most," said Mayor Yemi. "The 2026 Budget is more than numbers on a page. It is a reflection of who we are, our values, priorities, and resilience as a city. It balances today's challenges with tomorrow's opportunities. It demonstrates clarity, courage, and collaboration."

The 2026 Budget maintains a focus on essential services while sustaining investments in safety, infrastructure, and housing solutions that improve quality of life citywide. This includes maintaining sworn public safety staffing, continuing road and infrastructure improvements, and sustaining homelessness outreach and shelter support.

"While today marks the ceremonial handoff, I am pleased to share that City Council has been engaged throughout this process," said Mayor Yemi. "There are no surprises here, just teamwork and transparency, and a shared commitment to serve our residents well. I look forward to working with Council as they review, refine, and hear directly from residents whose lives are shaped by these budget decisions."
