Mamora, who earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the university in 2017, has spent the past several years earning graduate degrees and performing and competing in piano events around the world. He has participated in 24 major competitive events between 2022 and 2025 and winning 11 first place awards. This year, he won the 27th Hilton Head International Piano Competition and competed in the world-renowned Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Texas.
Mamora, a native of Loma Linda, began taking piano lessons at age 13 from former music professor Elvin Rodriguez and studied with him for the next 10 years. "He is a model for not just how [to] teach, but I think how one can be as a person as well," Mamora says in an article published this spring. "That was such a big part of why he always was able to bring students [to the university] because he lived his truth and his character and his values every day. And so students, every one of us in that department, looked up to him as the ultimate example.
He began his teaching career last year at Southwestern Adventist University and chose to return to La Sierra following a phone call earlier this year from La Sierra University President Christon Arthur. Read more about this story here.
