A new seasonal event, the Spring Celebration, comes to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Schmeeckle Reserve this May.
The event will be held Sunday, May 3, from 1-4 p.m. The celebration's theme is "Sounds of Spring." It is open to the public, free of charge, but donations are appreciated. A donation of $4/person or $10/family is suggested. Donation bins will be available at event entrances and stations. Donations directly support future events, programs, and projects of the Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve.
Attendees can get their face painted, explore hands-on discovery stations, enjoy snacks, make crafts to take home, and participate in a guided character hike. The "Sounds of Spring" character hike will be presented along the Trail of Reflections in the form of promenade theater. Participants will be led along the trail and story to meet different characters. Performances will take place every fifteen minutes beginning at 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required for the performances. Sign up here for a time slot.
The Visitor Center parking lot is reserved for people with disabilities or other special needs. Overflow parking lot and street parking is allowed on North Point Drive, Michigan Avenue, and Maria Drive during the evening of the event. Pets are not allowed in the Reserve at any time, with the exception of service animals. While strollers are always welcome on Schmeeckle's trails, they can cause congestion during events due to the number of trail users.
