Press Briefing
Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Lee Jaewoong
September 11, 2025 14:30 KST
Good afternoon. Let me start today's briefing.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun will meet with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix on the afternoon of Monday, September 15, and exchange views on UN peacekeeping operations and ways to enhance Korea-UN cooperation.
Minister Cho plans to request the UN Secretariat's attention and support for Korea's Dongmyeong Unit and Hanbit Unit, which are currently deployed to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon and the UN Mission in South Sudan, respectively.
On Sunday, September 14, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Yoonjoo will hold a meeting and a working luncheon with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, who is scheduled to visit Korea from September 13 to 14.
Prior to the Korea-U.S. vice ministers' meeting, Deputy Secretary Landau will also pay a courtesy call on Minister Cho Hyun.
Deputy Secretary Landau will be the highest-level State Department official to visit Korea since the inauguration of the new Korean government, and this meeting will be the second of its kind, following the one held in Japan on July 18.
The two sides plan to hold in-depth discussions on a wide range of issues, including follow-up measures to the ROK-U.S. summit, bilateral issues in the fields of economy, security, and consular affairs, matters concerning the Korean Peninsula and the region, as well as regional and global cooperation.
Next, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Jina will hold the Korea-Panama Foreign Ministers' meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama Javier Martinez-Acha in Seoul on Friday, September 12.
In the Foreign Ministers' meeting, the first to be held with a Latin American country since the inauguration of the Lee Jae Myung government, the two sides will review the bilateral relations that have developed since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1962 and explore ways to expand substantive cooperation.
(A question-and-answer session followed.)
