Today marks one year since Pam Bondi was confirmed as Attorney General, and her first year has been a disaster for Americans' freedom and justice. Since her confirmation, she has used the Department of Justice to do Donald Trump's personal bidding against his perceived political enemies, stonewall the release of the Epstein Files, and undermine free and fair elections.
Despite Bondi taking every opportunity to suck up to Trump, Trump has soured on her: He has reportedly complained about her to aides and described her as "weak and an ineffective enforcer of his agenda."
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
"Pam Bondi's tenure as attorney general has been nothing short of a catastrophe for the American justice system. Rather than serving the American public, Bondi has catered to Donald Trump at every turn, bending the Department of Justice into a political weapon for Trump's campaign of revenge and retribution. From cracking down on a free press and free speech, to her blatant efforts to rig the election system in Republicans' favor, to her role in covering up the Epstein Files, she has leveraged her power for Trump's every whim. It's a sad irony that after all this sucking up, she still might be on the chopping block in Trump's White House."
During her confirmation hearing, Bondi pledged that "No one will be prosecuted, investigated because they are a political opponent." But since she was confirmed, the Justice Department has opened numerous baseless investigations into Trump's political opponents, including several Democratic members of Congress, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, and, most recently, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and former CNN journalist Don Lemon.
Bondi also bungled the DOJ's handling of the Epstein Files, denying justice and accountability for the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein's crimes and dismissing Americans' demands for transparency. The DOJ has produced only half of what it collected over the course of its investigation, in direct violation of the law.
Bondi has also sought to undermine free and fair elections, demanding that nearly every state hand over its voter rolls and election-related data - and, in turn, suing more than 20 states that refused to comply. Most recently, after two American citizens were killed at the hands of federal immigration agents in Minneapolis, Bondi attempted to tie the "chaos in Minnesota" to the state's refusal to turn over its voter rolls.
