Sandeep Mehat Receives PHIL Award

Sandeep Mehat, a respiratory therapist at Buffalo General Medical Center, has been recognized with the 2025 PHIL Award for her outstanding care, skill and dedication to patients with respiratory illnesses. This national award recognizes the compassion, respect and dedication that respiratory therapists show to their patients.

The PHIL Award was established by The FACES Foundation to honor respiratory therapists who provide exceptional care to patients with life-threatening pulmonary conditions. Sharman Lamka created the award after her husband, Philip C. Lamka, passed away from Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). She wanted to acknowledge the vital role respiratory therapists play in patients' lives. The PHIL Award celebrates the 'unsung heroes' of the profession who understand that every breath matters. Kaleida Health is proud to implement this program to recognize these dedicated professionals.

Sandeep's colleagues describe her as compassionate, knowledgeable and collaborative. They highlight her calm demeanor in stressful situations, her willingness to go above and beyond for patients, her advocacy for patient needs and her support of the team in improving outcomes from bedside care to ventilator weaning and extubation. She is recognized as a trusted, approachable and invaluable member of the Respiratory Therapy department and the Buffalo General Medical Center team.

Join us in congratulating Sandeep for receiving the PHIL Award and for her outstanding care and dedication to every patient she serves.

Thank you, Sandeep, for the service and care you provide to all and congratulations on this extraordinary recognition!
