Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani will travel tomorrow to Cernay-la-Ville (France) to attend the third meeting of G7 Foreign Ministers under the French Presidency.
The agenda will first and foremost include a discussion on the crisis in Iran and the Middle East, following the G7 statement in support of countries in the region unjustly affected by Iranian attacks. Particular attention will be devoted to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Minister Tajani will also reaffirm Italy's focus on developments in Iraq and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, as well as in Gaza and Lebanon, with a specific emphasis on humanitarian aspects.
Developments towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine will also be central to the meeting, including a session attended by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and a discussion dedicated to reconstruction, which will also address the potential role of the G7 in rebuilding the arch of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Minister Tajani will reiterate Italy's firm support for Kyiv and for US mediation efforts, underlining the need to maintain strong pressure on Moscow through sanctions. G7 Ministers will also discuss international peace and security, including issues related to disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation.
The programme also includes two sessions respectively on hybrid threats and economic security, including critical raw materials, and on global governance reform, with the participation of the Foreign Ministers of India, Brazil, South Korea and Saudi Arabia.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Tajani will hold bilateral meetings with several G7 and international partners.
