The purpose of the project is to support the renovation of Porto Vecchio.

To achieve this, the project will deploy two mobile networks: a public outdoor/indoor 5G non-standalone (NSA) network and a private indoor 5G standalone (SA) network in the port of Trieste, Italy.

What will it provide?

The project will enable the renovation of the Old Port of Trieste by turning it into a vibrant hub for digital education and innovation.

How will it work?

The project will enable the implementation of two use cases:

  1. Digital Educational Centre 4.0 - The network will support the creation of a cutting-edge education facility in the Trieste Porto Vecchio area. Leveraging 5G technology, this centre will feature an internet of things (IoT) laboratory and immersive learning spaces, enabling students, professionals and citizens to engage with advanced digital tools. This initiative aligns with the broader Industry 4.0 vision, promoting digital transformation across various sectors.
  2. Quantum communications and 5G - The network will establish a quantum communication lab that integrates quantum key distribution into the 5G infrastructure. This state-of-the-art lab will serve both as a research and development platform for quantum technologies and as a secure communication hub.

How will it be built?

The project will deploy two mobile networks: a private SA 5G network and a public mobile NSA network and an edge network enabling ultra-low latency applications such as IoT, augmented and virtual reality devices.
