Cambium Quadruples U.S. Manufacturing Platform in North Carolina

SHD Composites, a Cambium company and Veteran Ventures Capital portfolio holding, has announced a major expansion of its U.S. manufacturing base with a new 60,000-square-foot facility in Mooresville, North Carolina. The expansion quadruples domestic prepreg production capacity and positions Cambium as a top-3 global player in the advanced composites supply chain.

Strategic Expansion

The new facility represents a significant commitment to onshoring critical advanced materials manufacturing. As defense and aerospace supply chains face increasing pressure to reduce foreign dependency, Cambium's expansion provides rapid-response manufacturing capability for prepreg composites used in military aircraft, spacecraft, unmanned systems, and other high-performance applications.

Manufacturing at Scale

The Mooresville facility will produce advanced composite prepreg materials - fiber-reinforced polymer matrices that serve as the building blocks for lightweight, high-strength structures across defense, aerospace, automotive, and industrial applications. By quadrupling domestic capacity, SHD Composites can now serve the growing demand for U.S.-manufactured advanced materials without reliance on overseas suppliers.

Dual-Use Impact

The expansion directly supports both commercial and defense customers who require ITAR-compliant, domestically sourced composite materials. With the advanced materials market projected to grow significantly through the decade, Cambium's investment positions the company to capture market share across multiple sectors while strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base.

The North Carolina location was selected for its proximity to existing aerospace and defense manufacturing clusters, skilled workforce availability, and favorable logistics for serving customers across the eastern United States.
