A woman was found deceased following a residential fire late Monday afternoon in Hyde Park.
At 4:32PM on November 16, 2025 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported rubbish fire in the 6300 block of S Brynhurst Avenue in Hyde Park. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a row of bungalows with active fire in one unit and immediately upgraded the incident to a structure fire response.
Firefighters initiated an offensive fire attack, while the responding truck companies performed vertical ventilation operations on the roof. Crews worked swiftly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining units.
A total of 37 LAFD personnel, operating under the command of Battalion Chief Joel Purma, successfully extinguished the fire in 21 minutes. No firefighter injuries were reported.
During the primary search of the affected unit, firefighters located a deceased female, approximately 65 years old, inside the structure.
Functioning smoke alarms were heard activating within the 2,880 square-foot building, constructed in 1929. Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety red-tagged the affected unit only; no other residents will be displaced.
In accordance with department protocol for fatal fires, the LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS) is conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will determine the victim's identity and official cause of death.
