Gilbert, Ariz. - This spring, Gilbert reached a significant milestone with the installation of its 230th traffic signal, located at the intersection of Layton Lakes Boulevard and Lindsay Road.
Gilbert installed its first traffic signal in the early 1970s. Today, the town operates 230, a network built signal by signal through steady, deliberate investment in infrastructure to serve one of the nation's fastest-growing communities.
The new signal marks a safer, more efficient entry and exit point for the Layton Lakes neighborhood and was delivered as part of the broader Lindsay Road Improvements project, spanning from Queen Creek Road to Ocotillo Road.
Construction is wrapping up on the segment between Layton Lakes Boulevard and Spur Road, where the corridor has been upgraded to meet Gilbert's standard for a minor arterial roadway. The project widened Lindsay Road to two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane, and added bike lanes, curb, gutter, sidewalk, streetlights, drainage improvements, and utility relocations.
The improvements also address a connectivity need that has grown steadily since the completion of the Lindsay Road Santan 202 freeway off-ramp in 2021. That project brought increased traffic volume to the corridor, putting strain on local intersections and the surrounding street network. The expanded Lindsay Road now provides the capacity and flow needed to accommodate that demand, offering residents and commuters a safer, more direct, and reliable route through the area.
