CEPH Seeks Feedback on Latest Proposed Changes to MPH Degree Criteria

The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) has released a new draft of proposed revisions to MPH degree criteria for universal review and comment. Released August 19, the latest proposal incorporates feedback received through previous rounds of public comment and provides the academic public health community with another important opportunity to help shape the future of MPH education.

The draft addresses updates to material already released and includes two important new criteria for review, "Emerging Technologies" and "MPH Program Length.

CEPH has released three resources for review: a Summary of Changes, outlining the latest revisions; updated MPH Criteria; and an MPH Interpretation Guide, providing additional detail on how the proposed criteria would be applied.

ASPPH is particularly pleased that the only named source informing this round of proposed changes is Transformative Approaches to Teaching and Learning, the report developed by ASPPH's Framing the Future 2030 expert panel. The report examines approaches to public health education designed to better prepare graduates for an evolving and increasingly complex public health landscape.

We encourage schools and programs to circulate the proposed revisions throughout their academic communities and invite faculty and colleagues to provide context-specific feedback, both positive and critical. Broad participation will help ensure that perspectives from across academic public health inform the future of the MPH degree.

Comments must be submitted to CEPH using its required comment form by Monday, October 26, 2026.
