Dr. Marmur is a nationally-recognized healthcare leader with a focus on cardiovascular education and clinical research

NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst today announced the appointment of Jonathan D. Marmur, MD as its new Chair of Cardiology. Dr. Marmur is an accomplished interventional cardiologist and academic physician who brings more than two decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience to Elmhurst Hospital. He joins the hospital following a distinguished tenure at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, where he held multiple leadership roles including Professor of Medicine, Chief of Cardiology, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, and Fellowship Director for both general and interventional cardiology.

Nationally recognized for his expertise in complex coronary intervention, cardiovascular education, and translational research, Dr. Marmur has played a pivotal role in strengthening regional referral networks and expanding access to advanced cardiovascular care throughout Brooklyn and the greater New York City area. Over the course of his career, he has mentored more than 70 interventional cardiologists, contributing significantly to the training and development of the next generation of cardiovascular specialists.
Dr. Marmur completed his medical degree at Laval University in Quebec, Canada. He pursued postgraduate training at McGill University and the University of Toronto before completing advanced training at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.
In his new role at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, Dr. Marmur will lead the Cardiology Department in advancing clinical excellence, expanding interventional services, strengthening academic partnerships, and enhancing equitable access to high-quality cardiovascular care for underserved communities.
