Bridging Gaps Across the NF1-PN Care Continuum

A continuing medical education (CME) activity for healthcare professionals caring for pediatric and adult patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 with plexiform neurofibromas (NF1-PN).

Managing NF1-PN requires a coordinated approach across a patient's lifetime. Timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment selection, and continuity of care are essential-particularly as patients transition from pediatric to adult care settings.

Bridging Gaps Across the NF1-PN Care Continuum brings together expert faculty to explore treatment decisions, proactive management of adverse events, and practical strategies for addressing gaps in care.

Program Details & Access

  • Register here to access the program when it becomes available on October 21, 2026. It will be available on-demand until October 21, 2027.
  • Intended audience: This activity is intended for medical oncologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other aligned healthcare professionals involved in managing pediatric and adult patients with NF1-PN.

About the Activity

NF1-PN is a rare, progressive condition that spans pediatric and adult care settings. This CME session reviews the pathophysiology of NF1-PN, the rationale for MEK inhibition, and the latest efficacy and safety data on approved and emerging MEK inhibitors.

Through a real-world patient case discussion, faculty will demonstrate practical strategies for proactive adverse event management, multidisciplinary team coordination, and maintaining continuity of care as pediatric patients move into adult settings.

Participants will gain evidence-based frameworks to individualize treatment decisions and counsel patients and caregivers across the full NF1-PN care continuum.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Describe key challenges with transitions of care for patients with NF1 moving from pediatric to adult care.
  • Apply evidence-based, practical, proactive strategies to manage adverse events and coordinate care for pediatric and adult patients with NF1.

Topics Covered

The activity will explore:

  • Understanding NF1: Natural history, genetics, and disease burden.
  • Treatment approaches: The rationale for MEK/ERK inhibition, a review of systemic therapies, and case-based approaches to individualized treatment.
  • Managing adverse events: Common adverse events with systemic therapy, proactive versus reactive management, and how adverse events affect daily life and treatment adherence.
  • Supporting treatment continuity: Setting patient expectations to help prevent treatment discontinuation.
  • Navigating care transitions: Structural gaps between pediatric and adult systems, multidisciplinary team roles, and real-world transition successes and challenges.
  • Centering the patient experience: What patients wish clinicians understood sooner and strategies for proactive communication with patients and families.
