COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) spent this week visiting businesses, workers, educators and innovators in Columbus, Lima, Chillicothe and Dayton.
"It's always encouraging to see how people in our great state are working to propel Ohio forward. From highways to classrooms and cutting-edge research labs, Ohioans are driving progress in every corner of our state. As I serve as their voice in Washington, I am dedicated to showcasing how Ohio is leading the way while working to make sure all Americans have the opportunity to succeed," said Husted.
Husted met with local business leaders and delivered remarks at the Ohio Chamber's Future Forum.
Husted delivered remarks at the Ohio Chamber's Future Forum in Columbus, where industry leaders, innovators and trade organizations met with policymakers to discuss forward-looking solutions for Ohio's economy.
"Nearly 20 years ago, Ohio ranked among the worst states to do business. Today, we're the fifth best. The Ohio Chamber's Future Forum highlights how pro-growth policies are propelling our state forward, and it was great to join them," said Husted.
Husted joined the Ohio Trucking Association for its annual conference in Columbus.
"The trucking industry is integral to Ohio's economy. It supports 385,320 jobs and 44,100 businesses. The Ohio Trucking Association advocates for the drivers who keep America moving by delivering the products and supplies we rely on every day," said Husted.
This visit builds on Husted's work to create market-driven solutions for truckers through his Resilient Tire Supply and Jobs Act. The bill would create a tax credit for consumers who purchase tires retreaded in America.
Husted met with the Taiwan Agricultural Goodwill Delegation to discuss agricultural ties between Taiwan and the U.S.
"Taiwan is Ohio's 12th-largest export destination and an important partner for our state's agriculture and economy. I will continue working to remove barriers for U.S. goods so Ohio can stay competitive and provide the resources we need to thrive," said Husted.
Husted toured Rhodes State College in Lima to see its facilities and discuss how Workforce Pell Grants in the budget law will help the school expand affordable career training for more students.
"Engineering tech degrees and health care programs at Rhodes State College prepare the local workforce to help local employers compete. I supported Workforce Pell in the budget law to make these programs more affordable by expanding access to Pell Grants, so that students can have job security and higher earning power," said Husted.
In the Senate, Husted is working to expand affordable training and education. He recently introduced the DECIDE Act and the Student Debt Alternative and CTE Awareness Act to give students and families tools to make informed decisions about their futures and avoid crushing debt.
Husted met with Education Secretary Lisa McMahon, Senator Bernie Moreno, First Lady Fran DeWine and America First Policy Institute's Chair of Education Opportunity Erika Donalds in Columbus.
Husted joined Education Secretary Lisa McMahon in Columbus to discuss Science of Reading training in Ohio. Science of Reading training equips educators with strategies for effective reading instruction.
"Reading is the foundation for learning and education. If students cannot read effectively, they cannot learn effectively. I enjoyed talking with Secretary McMahon about how we can make sure Ohio's educators have the best strategies to keep our students competitive and literate," said Husted.
Husted joined JobsOhio to announce Centrus Energy Corp.'s $1.7 billion investment to expand its Piketon plant.
Husted joined JobsOhio to announce Centrus Energy Corp.'s $1.7 billion investment to expand operations at its American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon. The project will create 299 new high-wage jobs in the region.
"We need to make the things that matter to our national and economic security in America with American companies. Expanding our ability to enrich uranium here in Ohio will continue America's legacy as the global leader in nuclear development. This facility will be a key resource in maintaining America's nuclear fleet and bringing power to millions of homes and businesses through modern modular reactors, and it begins with the hardworking and talented people here in Ohio," said Husted.
Husted attended the groundbreaking for the new onMain Inc. Dayton Innovation Hub. Driven by a collaborative partnership between the University of Dayton and Premier Health, onMain will be one of several, state-supported Innovation Hubs across Ohio that will feature residences, businesses and community spaces. Located on Main Street, onMain will support entrepreneurs, innovative technologies and research.
"Ohio is investing in innovation, and onMain is where innovation becomes reality. This new space will support local jobs and advance technology in the Dayton community and beyond. It's exciting to see Dayton taking charge with such a forward-looking project," said Husted.
