Maryland voters went to the polls Tuesday for the state's primary election, selecting nominees for governor, Congress and several state and local offices. The MD|DC Credit Union Association has reached out to congratulate the primary winners and looks forward to continuing its work with elected officials and candidates on issues important to credit unions and the communities they serve.
In the governor's race, incumbent Gov. Wes Moore and Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller secured the Democratic nomination, setting up a November rematch with former Delegate Dan Cox, who won the Republican nomination with running mate Rob Krop.
Two closely watched congressional races also drew significant attention.
In Maryland's 5th Congressional District, Delegate Adrian Boafo won the Democratic primary in the race to succeed longtime Congressman Steny Hoyer, who is retiring at the end of his term. Boafo prevailed in a large Democratic field and will face Republican nominee Chris Chaffee in the general election. The 5th District contest was one of the most closely watched races in the state because it marks the first time in over four decades that the district has had an open seat.
In Maryland's 6th Congressional District, incumbent Rep. April McClain Delaney won the Democratic primary, defeating former Congressman David Trone and other challengers in one of the state's most competitive and high-profile contests. On the Republican side, Robin Ficker won the nomination and will face McClain Delaney in November.
