Missourians’ Citizen Referendum Reaches 150,000 Signatures, Efforts for Statewide Referendum Vote on Fair Maps Still Ongoing Arrow

Yesterday, People Not Politicians, a group of Missouri voters fighting Republicans' rigged maps, announced that their citizen referendum reached over 150,000 signatures.

Democrats have been fighting back while Donald Trump and his Republican allies try to rig the congressional map after passing the Big Ugly Bill that kicks 230,000 Missourians off their health insurance. Last month, the DNC announced an investment to support Missouri Democrats' signature collection efforts.

In response, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement:

"Missourians should decide who represents them in Congress, not Donald Trump and his extreme allies. Donald Trump is trying to rig the maps because he's worried he'll lose his House majority next year after giving massive handouts to the rich on the backs of working people, kicking 230,000 Missourians off their health care, and shuttering rural hospitals. Missouri Democrats are standing up and fighting for voters. The DNC is unwavering in our commitment to support Missouri Democrats and ensure fair representation for every Missourian."

The DNC's investment supported the Missouri Democratic Party's on-the-ground efforts to collect the necessary signatures, including:

  • Hiring organizing staff to run signature collection efforts in targeted districts .
  • Supporting volunteer organizing efforts to collect signatures across the state.
  • Provided an events platform tool to manage volunteer signature collection events across the state.
  • Contacted more than 100,000 Missouri voters to encourage them to sign the petition.
