The woman killed in a shooting on Sunday, August 10, 2025, has been identified as Kimberly Venegas-Gonzalez, 21, of Portland. Her family has been notified of her death. While they are asking for privacy, they did provide a photo for public release.

The Medical Examiner determined the cause of Kimberly's death was a gunshot wound. The manner of death is undetermined at this time.

Death Investigation Underway in Southeast Portland

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers assigned to the Portland Police Bureau's East Precinct responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 2000 block of Southeast 170th Avenue after a male called 911 to report a female was deceased in the home. When they arrived, officers determined the male was likely armed and barricaded inside the residence. Concerned that an individual was deceased or injured inside the residence with an armed subject, PPB's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) responded to assist with the call. A short time later, SERT breached the front door and located a female who was removed from the home and pronounced deceased. The male remained barricaded inside the home, refusing to comply with police commands. Shortly before 9:00 p.m., the male exited the residence and was taken into custody. He was then transported to an area hospital for medical care. A firearm was recovered.

PPB's Homicide Unit responded to the scene to conduct a death investigation.
