CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will hold a voluntary public meeting to discuss the upcoming culvert replacement project on State Route 53 near Hurricane Branch Lane.
The meeting will take place on:
Date: Monday, February 23, 2026
Time: 5:00 p.m. CST
Location: Jackson County Courthouse, 101 Main Street, Gainesboro, TN
TDOT representatives will provide an overview of the project, which will require a temporary closure of SR 53 for approximately 50 days starting mid-March 2026. The closure is necessary to replace a failing culvert that poses a significant safety risk. Using pre-cast structures will minimize the closure duration compared to traditional methods.
Topics to be covered:
· Project timeline and construction details
· Detour routes and traffic impacts
· Emergency access
· Coordination with schools, local officials, and first responders
Community members are encouraged to attend.
