Torrential rainfall triggered devastating flash flooding across Madison County, Kentucky, overwhelming neighborhoods, washing out roads, and prompting numerous water rescues. The hardest-hit area was around Richmond, making the county one of the most severely impacted in the state.
The flooding occurred as part of a broader storm system that brought several inches of rain across central and eastern Kentucky, leading to a statewide emergency declaration, widespread infrastructure damage, and ongoing rescue and recovery efforts as officials warned of continued flooding risks.
When the severe flooding caused significant damage across Madison County, the community faced immediate needs for essential supplies. As recovery efforts began, Meijer teams moved quickly to help provide practical support for neighbors impacted by the flooding.
The request for assistance included bottled water, cleaning supplies and canned foods - items that are critical in the days following a flood as residents begin the difficult process of cleanup and recovery. The donated items and supplies went to God's Outreach Madison County Food Bank, a community partner the Richmond Meijer store has worked with since for more than 15 years. With special in-house inventory already available at the Richmond Meijer store, team members were able to quickly meet the immediate needs within the community.
The effort reflected the flexibility and care of local Meijer teams, who worked together to identify available product, fulfill the request and coordinate support for the community.
Whether responding to severe weather, flooding or other emergencies, Meijer remains committed to being there for the communities it serves. By working closely with local teams and community partners, Meijer helps provide meaningful and impactful support when neighbors need it most.
