WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY) and Ranking Member Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) will lead a bipartisan delegation to visit Ground Zero on the 24th anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The members will lay flowers at the memorial in remembrance of the victims and first responders, after which they will tour the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

What: House Committee on Homeland Security Members to visit Ground Zero on 9/11

When: Thursday, September 11, 2025, around 5:15 PM ET

Where: 180 Greenwich Street New York, NY 10007

"Twenty-four years later, it's critical to remember that the Department of Homeland Security and this Committee were created in the aftermath of the worst terrorist attack in our nation's history. As a lifelong New Yorker and a proud Long Islander, 'Never Forget' is about more than remembrance; it is a call to action that guides my work every day, and it will continue to guide the Committee's," Chairman Garbarino said. "After more than two decades, our nation still faces heightened and evolving threats from foreign terrorist organizations and homegrown violent extremists, and New York remains a top terror target. Today's visit is an essential opportunity to not only honor the thousands of innocent lives lost that day and to thank our first responders for their enduring dedication to keeping the homeland safe, but it's also a chance to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring DHS can detect, prevent, and respond to threats when we need it most."

"I am glad we are traveling in a bipartisan capacity to Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial Museum today to mark the 24th anniversary of that fateful day. It will be an opportunity to remember the lives we lost and recognize the bravery and sacrifice of the first responders," Ranking Member Thompson said. "Together we carry a shared responsibility to ensure a tragedy like September 11th never happens again. We 'never forget' to honor the victims, survivors, and thousands of other Americans impacted by working to keep our homeland safe and secure."
