November 17, 2025, Peoria, IL - Last week, a Peoria County Judge granted the State's Motion to Transfer to Adult Court a Peoria teen for an August shooting. Tabias J. Kelley, who was 17 at the time of the offense and is now 18, will now be tried as an adult for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. During his detention hearing today, the State's Petition to Detain was granted, meaning Kelley will remain in custody until his trial.
On August 19, 2025, police responded to a reported shooting in the 300 block of East Virginia Avenue in the East Bluff. Although no one was injured in the shooting, officers located a home that had been struck four times by gunfire, along with shell casings in the roadway. The homeowner identified Kelley as the shooter and reported that he had called earlier in the day, threatening to shoot the family.
In deciding to grant the transfer, the court must consider several factors, including Kelley's background, previous rehabilitative services, and whether the juvenile justice system can provide adequate protection to the public.
This investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
