MLGW cancels Saturday meter reading due to weather conditions
January 10, 2025

Readings will be estimated to ensure customers receive a bill

Due to unsafe weather conditions, Memphis Light, Gas and Water will have to cancel the Saturday meter reading scheduled on January 11.

As a result, MLGW will estimate the readings for about 2,900 residential customers to ensure that these customers receive a timely bill. The meter readers were slated to collect readings in Midtown, Orange Mound and a portion of South Memphis, west of Interstate 240.

Meter readings are typically done on weekdays, but MLGW occasionally schedules Saturday readings to prevent extended billing cycles.

With a smart meter, you won't need to worry about weather conditions or extended billing cycles as usage data is transmitted to MLGW daily, eliminating the need for manual meter readings.

If you would like a smart meter installed to avoid the inconvenience of unlocking your gate or securing your pets, contact the Customer Care Center at 901-544-6549.
