September 19, 2025 - ROCHESTER, MN - Rochester Public Transit (RPT) is installing additional lighting at Central Park to enhance safety and the rider experience while the temporary transit center is relocated due to construction on 2nd Street SW.
Construction will occur on two sides of the park at a time over two days, weather permitting. During construction, the sidewalk along the affected sides will be closed and pedestrians will be routed through the park. All transit routes will continue to operate from Central Park; however, routes normally using the impacted stands will be relocated to a temporary Stand 6 located on the east side of 1 Avenue NW.
Construction Schedule, weather permitting
Signage will be clearly posted to guide riders to their temporary boarding locations.
In coordination with this project, the Rochester Parks Department will also be conducting tree maintenance on the impacted sides of the park. By combining efforts, the City aims to minimize future disruptions to riders.
The installed lights are semi-permanent and will be in place throughout the temporary relocation of the Downtown Transit Center, if not longer. This improvement project is funded by Mayo Clinic.
