Bipartisan Bill Championed by Sen. Ossoff to Strengthen Cancer Screenings for Seniors Becomes Law

Washington, D.C. - A bipartisan bill backed by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff to strengthen cancer screenings for Georgia seniors has become law.

Sen. Ossoff worked with Republicans and Democrats to expand access to early-detection cancer screenings for seniors in Georgia. The bipartisan Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act, cosponsored by Sen. Ossoff, was signed into law on February 3 as part of bipartisan government funding legislation.

The new law allows Medicare to cover multi-cancer early detection screening tests once they are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), aiming to help more seniors get screened early for cancer.

"I'm always fighting for Georgia's seniors and seniors' health, and that's why I cosponsored this bill to have Medicare cover these multicancer screening tests that can check for different kinds of cancer all at once to support early detection," Sen. Ossoff said. "I'm pleased that this bill I cosponsored is now law."

Sen. Ossoff continues working to increase Georgians' access to lifesaving health care.

In February, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the bipartisan Safe Step Act to help prevent insurance companies from delaying Georgians' access to medical care.

In January, the bipartisan Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act, a bill cosponsored by Sen. Ossoff, was signed into law as part of the NDAA to expand support for Georgia first responders battling service-related cancers or injuries.

Also in January, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the bipartisan States Handling Access to Reciprocity for Employment (SHARE) Act of 2025 to help reduce Georgia's shortage of health care workers.

In 2025, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the bipartisan Resident Education Deferred Interest (REDI) Act, which would allow recent graduates of medical school to defer their student loan payments without interest while they serve in a medical or dental internship or residency program, aiming to reduce the shortage of medical professionals in Georgia.
