How Pitt is building additional awareness and support for research

Restoring sight. Innovating cancer treatments. Aiding stroke recovery. These are just a few of the many areas where researchers at the University of Pittsburgh are working to save and improve lives.

Funding research studies like these means hope - hope to cure a devastating disease, to gain the gift of sight, to improve the quality of a person's life after a significant injury, to deepen our historical understanding in transformational new ways and to pursue AI-led advancements that lead to better, faster outcomes.

To highlight the importance of the University's vital, complex research work and the dedicated researchers who make it possible, Pitt launched the Research Matters program in April. Community members are sharing the initiative's graphics, profiles and captions on their social media accounts using #PittResearchMatters, as well as through department newsletters and screens installed across campus, to increase awareness.

"Response to the Research Matters program has been inspiring, with more than half a million impressions to date. Along with sending a powerful collective message about the importance of funding, it's an impactful way for the University community to share stories about the transformational research work happening at Pitt," said Kevin Washo, senior vice chancellor for external relations.

The featured researchers are leaders and innovators in their fields, and their discoveries are changing lives.

Pitt's research is being recognized nationally, too: The Association of American Universities will feature Pitt's groundbreaking military medicine research in the coming months as part of their Break Through campaign, which shares how America's leading research universities are taking on the nation's biggest challenges.
