DENVER - Newly confirmed Director of the Bureau of Land Management Steve Pearce must ensure that the 245 million acres of public land stewarded by the agency are not sold off to the highest bidder and are carefully managed so all Americans can continue to benefit from them.
"Millions of Americans depend on Bureau of Land Management lands for their livelihoods, recreation, and cultural practices. These lands must be available and accessible so all people can enjoy them now and for generations to come," said David Willms, associate vice president of public lands at the National Wildlife Federation. "The National Wildlife Federation will work with Director Pearce to ensure that our public lands remain in public hands so they can continue to support wildlife, local communities, and the long-term health of our nation's natural heritage."
