ONTARIO, Ohio- OhioHealth and Nationwide Children's Hospital are partnering to bring expert care for the whole family under one roof in Ontario. A wide range of outpatient services will be available in the new building, including primary care, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics. The 42,000 square foot facility will be located on W 4th Street in Ontario, in the same lot as the current OhioHealth Ontario Health and Fitness Center.
Services provided by OhioHealth include:
-Primary care for adults
-Obstetrics and gynecology
-Advanced imaging capabilities in a new mammography unit
"This project represents OhioHealth's commitment to growing families in the north central region," said Curt Gingrich MD, president of OhioHealth Mansfield and Shelby Hospitals. "This expanded relationship between OhioHealth and Nationwide Children's Hospital in Ontario will offer more in-depth care for the whole family to meet evolving health care needs closer to where they live and work."
Services provided by Nationwide Children's include:
-Pediatric primary care
-Pediatric specialty clinics
-Pediatric clinical therapies
-Pediatric radiology
-Pediatric laboratory capabilities
"Nationwide Children's currently offers primary care and outpatient services in the region in addition to our existing partnership with OhioHealth Mansfield hospital where we provide 24/7 on-site care to neonatal and pediatric patients," said Libbey Hoang, vice president of planning and business development at Nationwide Children's. "This relocation allows us to consolidate and expand our outpatient services to patients and families in Mansfield and Ontario to meet them where they are."
As part of this investment project, OhioHealth also plans to renovate its existing facility in Ontario and add services. The Ontario Health and Fitness Center currently offers urgent care, WorkHealth, a public fitness center, therapy services, imaging, as well as OhioHealth Physician Group Primary Care services. OhioHealth will add a specialty hub including a number of specialists to support the community's unique needs.
"This reinvestment in a 26-year-old facility will improve the patient experience and support future growth in Ontario," said Dr. Gingrich. "As more care moves to outpatient settings, these added services will help keep care close to home for the community we've been proud to serve for over a decade."
OhioHealth and Nationwide Children's Hospital already partner to bring nationally-recognized care to infants and children at Mansfield Hospital. Pediatric hospitalists will remain at Mansfield Hospital full-time.
Construction on the $38.4 million project is expected to begin in Spring of 2026.
