Polycystic Kidney Disease Awareness Day

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Polycystic Kidney Disease Awareness Day

WHEREAS, Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder that causes damage to the kidneys and the cardiovascular, endocrine, hepatic, and gastrointestinal organ systems; and

WHEREAS, PKD causes kidney function decline and is one of the four leading causes of kidney failure in the United States, affecting individuals of all ages, races, genders, nationalities, geographic locations, and income levels; and

WHEREAS, raising public awareness about PKD is essential to support research efforts, improve patient outcomes, and ultimately find a cure; and

WHEREAS, PKD awareness empowers patients and families to seek diagnosis, support, and appropriate treatment; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia joins all affected individuals, their families, and dedicated organizations across the Commonwealth in spreading awareness of PKD, supporting research, and embracing hope for improved treatments and a cure.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize September 4, 2026, as POLYCYSTIC KIDNEY DISEASE AWARENESS DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
