ENGLEWOOD, NJ - To honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) joined with the Center for Food Action (CFA), Community Baptist Church of Englewood, and the community for a day of service to assemble more than 2,000 weekend snack packs for children experiencing food insecurity.
The event was organized by the Center for Food Action, a North Jersey nonprofit that operates in more than 100 towns. In 2024, the CFA served more than 157,000 people, including more than 50,000 children.
"As we mark Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy this weekend, we're reminded that service to others is one of the most powerful ways to honor his vision. This is a moment not only to give back to our communities and support families in need, but also to stand up and speak out when our shared values are challenged by extremism," said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). "I'm grateful to the volunteers in Englewood who stepped up to help provide meals to thousands of children facing food insecurity. When we come together with compassion and purpose, as we've seen here today, it's clear that our strongest days are still ahead."
Gottheimer was joined by NJ Assemblywoman Shama Haider, Bergen County Commissioners Tracy Zur, Tom Sullivan, and Joan Voss, and Center for Food Action Executive Director Nicole Davis.
