Joint News Release with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Today, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) officials, experts from third-party laboratories and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO) sampled ALPS treated water diluted with seawater on the premises of TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS).
As a part of the Additional Measures under the IAEA framework, IAEA officials and experts from third-party laboratories visited Japan and collected samples today.
In September 2024, Japan and the IAEA concurred on conducting the Additional Measures under the IAEA framework. This visit was the tenth mission for conducting the Additional Measures since October 2024.
In this Additional Measures mission, IAEA officials, experts from laboratories in China, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, and Switzerland and TEPCO sampled ALPS treated water diluted with seawater on the premises of TEPCO's FDNPS.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will continue to maintain close coordination with the IAEA in sharing information with the international community in a highly transparent manner and fostering better understanding of the safety of the discharge of ALPS treated water within both the domestic and international communities.
