Newport News to Launch National Community Survey

The City of Newport News is excited to announce the launch of a National Community Survey (NCS) designed to gather valuable feedback from residents and assess the effectiveness of city services. This survey will help guide future decisions and improve the quality of life for all who live in Newport News.

The survey will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase will involve 4,000 randomly selected households, who will receive a paper invitation by mail to participate. These households will have the option to complete the survey either on paper or online. The second phase, open to all residents, will begin on May 2. After May 2, the survey will be available online. The content of the survey will be identical in both phases, ensuring a consistent collection of opinions from all participants.

The survey will remain open until May 16.

"We are dedicated to ensuring the voices of our residents are heard," said Mayor Phillip Jones. "This survey will provide us with invaluable insight to understand the needs and priorities of the city. This is an opportunity for everyone to share their perspective and play a role in making Newport News an even better place to live and work."

Residents are encouraged to visit NNVA.gov/survey to sign up with their email address and receive notifications when the survey becomes available to the public. In addition, participants can choose to receive a copy of the results once the survey has been completed and analyzed.

The survey will cover a wide range of topics, including mobility, utilities, safety, economy, engagement, natural environment, and more. It takes less than 10

minutes to complete.

The city has partnered with POLCO, an independent firm, to design and conduct the survey. The National Community Survey allows the city to compare local feedback with data from similar communities across the country, providing valuable benchmarking insights. Once the survey concludes, POLCO will provide Newport News with a comprehensive report detailing the results.
