A Lancaster University researcher has appeared in Parliament to give evidence around electric vehicles.
Dr Nicole Bulawa, from Lancaster University Management School, was invited to give evidence to the House of Commons Transport Committee on their inquiry on 'Supercharging the EV transition'.
In her in-person evidence, Dr Bulawa highlighted:
- Public campaigns to address range anxiety should focus on real-life mobility use cases, as opposed to technical charge ranges.
- Charging device design and charging location planning should take accessibility and safety considerations into account.
- A publicly funded independent EV information hub should be established to offer simple, standardised information on vehicle choice, charging types, charger compatibility, tariffs and day-to-day EV use.
- The development of a nationally coordinated spatial planning dataset for EV infrastructure integrating data on existing charge points, grid capacity, demographic indicators and land ownership could significantly reduce duplicated assessment work across charge point operators.
Dr Bulawa said: "I am grateful for the opportunity provided by the Transport Committee to contribute to the conversation about the next steps in EV infrastructure development - a necessary step if we are to establish a more far-reaching EV movement that is available to all."
She had previously submitted full written evidence and recommendations based on Lancaster-led research.
Dr Bulawa gave evidence alongside Jarrod Birch from ChargeUK, Wesley Scott from Brook Green Supply, Esme Yuill at Transport East and David Boyer from Energy Networks Association (ENA).
