Notice Regarding CompFile Record Retention

News - Wednesday, June 3, 2026
print

In an effort to improve operational efficiency and system performance, and pursuant to Section 17 of the Workers' Compensation Act, the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission (IWCC) will begin reducing data maintained within the CompFile system effective July 2, 2026.

As part of this initiative, all decisions and approved settlement contracts older than five years that are not subject to Section 8(a) or 19(h) requirements will be removed from CompFile and transferred to a separate data repository. Beginning July 2, 2026, these records will remain available upon request through [email protected]. Please note that supporting documents, including exhibits, medical reports, and representation agreements, will not be archived and will not be recoverable after removal from CompFile.

The IWCC strongly recommends that attorneys review and retain any applicable files and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with professional responsibility requirements related to client records.
Additional information, including retrieval instructions, eligibility criteria, and guidance related to this archival process, is available on the IWCC CompFile Resources page, here.
