The driver responsible for hitting and killing a flagger has been arrested. On August 31, 2026, Miguel Jimenez was directing traffic at a construction site near NE Division Street and NE Hogan Drive in Gresham when he was fatally struck by a passing vehicle. The driver fled before police arrived. City-owned public safety cameras captured the collision and the suspect vehicle's license plate.
Five days later, officers with the Vancouver Police Department located the suspect vehicle at an apartment complex in Vancouver, Washington. Criminalists and officers with the Vehicular Crimes Team (VCT) responded to examine the vehicle and collect evidence.
Over the following weeks, detectives and VCT members served multiple search warrants, reviewed digital evidence, and processed physical and trace evidence collected from the scene and the suspect vehicle. Investigators identified 26-year-old Courtney McKee, of Vancouver, as the driver involved in the crash.
A warrant for McKee's arrest was issued on September 29, 2026. Earlier today, McKee turned herself in to the Vancouver Police Department. Extradition proceedings will take place to return McKee to Oregon, where she will face charges of Manslaughter in the First Degree, Manslaughter in the Second Degree, DUII, Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver Leading to a Death, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangering.
"The safety of everyone who travels our roadways remains a top priority. Our officers, detectives, and members of the Vehicular Crimes Team will continue working diligently to investigate serious crashes and hold those responsible accountable. We are grateful for the assistance provided by our partners at the Vancouver Police Department throughout this investigation," said Gresham Police Chief Travis Gullberg.
