Chevrolet celebrated America's 250th year with a roaring tribute ahead of the Indianapolis 500. On May 23, against the backdrop of the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the brand executed a one-of-a-kind birthday celebration featuring the American-assembled1 Corvette ZR1X to highlight its year-long recognition of America's semi quincentennial.
Behind the wheel of the hypercar was Corvette Senior Controls and Software Engineer Cody Bulkley, who harnessed the unrivaled performance of ZR1X to successfully "blow out" 250 birthday candles on the track.
"Resilience, pride and work ethic of Americans have driven our nation forward for 250 years. For nearly 115 years, Chevrolet has been engrained in America's story," said Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet. "Corvette has long been a symbol of the American dream, so it is a privilege to celebrate this moment at the Racing Capital of the World by having a Corvette ZR1X blow out 250 candles in a display of power and precision."
The Indy 500 stunt was just one way Chevrolet is celebrating America's 250th birthday. Chevrolet currently has a limited-edition Stars & Steel Collection2, a curated lineup of vehicles designed to embody purpose-driven patriotism and American craftsmanship3. Chevrolet looked at its own history and brought back "See the USA in your Chevrolet," recognizing that Chevrolet has been woven into the fabric of this country for the last 114 years.
For this weekend's 110th running of the Indianapolis 500, the Official Pace Car is a Corvette ZR1X finished in a bold Arctic White and Admiral Blue, a Stars & Steel2-inspired, stars-and-stripes design - a symbol that will live in racing history as recognition of this important anniversary.
Throughout the year, Chevrolet will continue to celebrate the country's anniversary, revisiting iconic moments in the brand's history and celebrating the linkage between the country and the brand's heritage.
