Please join the City of Alexandria for a community meeting for the Flood Resilience Plan on Thursday, November 5 from 7 - 8:15 p.m. at the Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe Street), or online via Zoom, as the public comment period for the draft plan begins. City representatives will provide an overview of the plan, share updates on the timeline, and explain how community members can review the plan and provide feedback.
The Flood Resilience Plan will serve as a roadmap to mitigate flooding and build a more resilient Alexandria. The plan was developed through a science-based process including flood risk and vulnerability assessments, comprehensive evaluations of infrastructure projects and resilience strategies, and stakeholder engagement to inform implementation and outreach. At the meeting, members of the community will be able to learn about the plan and its recommendations and how to submit comments.
The draft Flood Resilience Plan will be available on the City's website a few days before the meeting. The 30-day public comment period runs from October 30 through December 1. Public comment outside of the meeting will be gathered via online form, and a recording will be posted on the Flood Resilience Plan webpage after the meeting.
Several bus stops are located near the Charles Houston Recreation Center, including the Old Town Circulator. Other bus routes can be found in the DASH System Map. Parking is available on-street or in the lot on the north side of the building.
The meeting registration link will be available on the Flood Resilience Plan webpage in the coming days. Once registered, the online access link and dial-in information will be shared via email.
