MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Peter Swan, associate professor emeritus of supply chain management at Penn State Harrisburg, will hold a presentation Nov. 20 to discuss the findings of a Transportation Research Board study he helped compile on the impacts of long freight trains.

The presentation, which is open to the public, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in room W338 of the Olmsted Building at Penn State Harrisburg.

Swan served as a committee member for the two-year study, which was commissioned by the Federal Railroad Administration and the U.S. House of Representatives.

The study was conducted in response to serious incidents including the 2023 train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, and assesses the impact of longer trains on key areas such as safety, community access and passenger delays.

Swan's presentation will discuss the study's findings and recommendations. He will be available to address questions on the study as well as broader inquiries related to the railroad industry.
