The facility supports a 150MWh BESS in Wandoan South in Queensland, and two adjacent 583 MWh BESS units in New South Wales. One asset is operational, with the remaining two under construction.
The transaction represents a continued evolution of financing structures for renewable energy assets in Australia and brings together multiple standalone BESS projects at different stages of development under a single financing arrangement.
Norton Rose Fulbright advised on all legal aspects of the financing, supporting the lenders throughout the transaction.
The deal reflects the growing maturity of Australia's battery storage market and highlights the increasing role of BESS assets in supporting the transition to a more flexible and resilient energy system.
Norton Rose Fulbright partner Nick Sinclair, who led the matter, commented:
"We are pleased to have supported Vena Energy's lenders on this significant financing facility. The transaction demonstrates the continued momentum behind Australia's renewable energy sector and the increasing sophistication of financing structures for battery storage assets. It also reflects the growing maturity of the BESS market and the important role that storage will play in supporting a more flexible and resilient energy system."
Nick was supported by special counsel Sunny Jong, senior associate Delfina Sutjiadi, associate Bella Baker and lawyer Naz Sharifi.
