The International Biotechnology Meeting BIOSPAIN 2026 now has an official websiteand has opened registration. The next edition of Spain's leading biotechnology event and one of the most important in Europe will take place in Bilbao from September 29 to October 1, 2026.

Organized by AseBio, in collaboration with Basque Health Cluster (BHC), Diputación Foral de Bizkaia, and Gobierno Vasco, the event will once again bring together leading players from the national and international biotechnology ecosystem.

With the launch of the website and the opening of registration, companies and organizations can now secure their participation in BIOSPAIN 2026, as well as book exhibition space-an option that is in high demand edition after edition. The historically high occupancy of the exhibition area makes early booking advisable to access the most prominent locations within the trade fair.

In the coming days, the Call for Sessions will also open, inviting the entire biotechnology ecosystem to propose sessions on current and relevant topics for the sector. The aim is to collaboratively build a program that accurately reflects the sector's reality, challenges, and opportunities.

BIOSPAIN, a Benchmark Event for National and International Biotechnology

BIOSPAIN has established itself as Spain's leading biotechnology event and one of the main events at the European level. The latest edition, held in Barcelona, closed with record-breaking figures that confirm its role as an essential meeting point for the sector.

BIOSPAIN 2025 brought together more than 2,400 attendees from over 1,000 organizations across 35 countries, reinforcing its international character. The event featured 140 investors from 76 national and international investment firms and facilitated more than 4,500 meetings, confirming BIOSPAIN as a key platform for networking and business development opportunities.

The 2025 edition also included nearly 280 exhibition spaces and a comprehensive program with more than 60 sessions, where national and international professionals and experts analyzed the main challenges and opportunities in biotechnology.

The Basque Country, a Leading Life Sciences and Health Ecosystem

The Basque Country is a strongly innovative European region, well known for its industrial strength, and in recent years it has consolidated its position as a dynamic hub for life sciences and health. The sector comprises more than 300 companies and is supported by an ecosystem that includes 20 research and technology centers-among them four Health Research Institutes-four universities, and a pioneering dual vocational training network, as well as leading hospitals and healthcare organizations.

The life sciences and health sector employs more than 62,000 people, around 8.4% of the working population, and generates over €9.4 billion in revenue.

This strategic sector experienced significant growth between 2015 and 2023, with increases of nearly 130% in both employment and revenue. Despite representing less than 5% of Spain's population and around 6% of national GDP, innovative Basque biotechnology and eHealth companies account for 10.6% of the total number of companies in the sector in Spain, 16.3% of employment, and 18.7% of revenues. In 2024, investments in Basque biotechnology companies reached more than €28 million, representing 15.7% of the national total.

Bizkaia accounts for 45% of the sector's companies, 44% of employment, and 56% of revenues, thanks to a strong public support ecosystem and tax policies aimed at fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, investment, and talent attraction. Science and technology are fundamental pillars, positioning the Basque Country as one of the leading regions in scientific output and in attracting competitive European funding, particularly in life sciences and health.

In addition, the Basque Country is a leading European hub for advanced therapy manufacturing, with a solid value chain, the presence of international players, and more than half of Spain's industrial biomanufacturing capacity located in the region.
