Geosyntec Practitioners to Speak at Vapor Intrusion Unplugged

Eric Lovenduski; Darius Mali, PEng; Brian Ares, PG, PH; and Todd McAlary, PhD, PEng, PG, will present at the Vapor Intrusion Unplugged conference on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The event is hosted by the West Michigan Chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association (WM-AWMA) in partnership with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).

Eric is a Principal Scientist based in New York with more than 25 years of experience focused on soil and groundwater contamination. He specializes in evaluating and mitigating vapor intrusion and supports carbon capture, utilization, and storage projects. Eric is known for his innovative, yet simple, vapor intrusion solutions and for helping develop industry standards and guidance documents on the subject.

Darius is a Senior Engineer based in Ontario with more than 10 years of environmental consulting experience, including soil vapor sampling, high-volume sampling, building pressure cycling, engineered phytoremediation, self-sustaining active remediation, and groundwater remediation.

Brian is a Project Geologist based in Michigan who focuses on investigating and remediating groundwater contamination and vapor intrusion and conducting geochemical assessments of inorganic contaminant-impacted sites. He specializes in geochemical analysis and modeling of inorganic contaminant fate and transport and mineral-water interactions.

Todd is a Senior Consultant based in Ontario with more than 30 years of experience focused on contaminant fate and transport in soil and groundwater with a specialization in vapor intrusion and associated human health risks. In 1997, he became the technical director of one of the world's largest studies of subsurface vapor intrusion and has conducted site-specific assessments of vapor intrusion at hundreds of sites worldwide.

Vapor Intrusion Unplugged is a one-day conference where environmental professionals explore emerging vapor intrusion challenges and practical solutions. Presenters will address assessment, risk management, remediation, regulatory oversight, redevelopment, and informed and defensible decision-making.

WM-AWMA provides a neutral forum for discussing environmental issues across technical, scientific, economic, social, political, and public health aspects. EGLE works with partners at all levels to protect Michigan's environment while supporting economic growth.
