KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Mayor Quinton Lucas today announced he will not file as a candidate for Missouri's Fourth Congressional District, a district into which the Mayor and over 100,000 Kansas Citians were shifted by conservative interests to dilute Democratic voting power in Missouri.
In a
video message shared with the community, Mayor Lucas stated that, while he will not appear on the 2026 ballot, he will evaluate future elections and remains committed to Kansas City through the end of his tenure as mayor.
"The effort is clear: to get Democrats and common-sense Moderates and Independents out of office and to make sure our voices are marginalized as we stand against ICE, as we stand up for our communities, because we stand up for our workers," said Mayor Lucas. "I plan to be in that struggle. I plan to be in that struggle as your mayor in Kansas City."
17 months remain in the Mayor's term. He has served as mayor of Kansas City since 2019, the youngest person elected to the role since 1855. The Mayor is president of the Democratic Mayors Association and is a co-chair of several nationwide groups. He will remain engaged in local service and national political endeavors through the remainder of his second term.
