Rep. Matthew Gambill Appointed by Speaker Jon Burns to State Workforce Development Board

ATLANTA - State Representative Matthew Gambill (R-Cartersville), a Governor's Floor Leader, was recently appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the State Workforce Development Board.

"I am very honored to receive this appointment to the State Workforce Development Board from Speaker Burns," said Rep. Gambill. "In light of the work that I have done over the last four years passing the Top State for Talent legislation as a part of the governor's legislative package, I look forward to helping shape our state's new workforce development strategy and implement the legislation that we have worked so hard on."

Sponsored by Rep. Gambill during the 2025 legislative session, House Bill 192, also known as the Top State for Talent Act, is an initiative designed to align the state's education system with high-demand career needs. This initiative seeks to ensure that every Georgian has access to clear, connected and high-value pathways, developed in partnership with state agencies, employers and regional leaders.

The State Workforce Development Board functions under the Technical College System of Georgia is tasked with administering Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act funds across the state and overseeing the governor's state workforce development initiatives. The board is comprised of business owners, members of the Georgia General Assembly, statewide agency heads, local elected officials and representatives from other workforce groups.

Representative Matthew Gambill represents the citizens of District 15, which includes a portion of Bartow County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves as a Governor's Floor Leader, Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Vice Chairman of the Economic Development & Tourism Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Economic Development, Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Higher Education, Human Relations & Aging, Insurance and Natural Resources & Environment committees.
