Prepare for Potential Severe Weather

Unstable weather is forecast to move into the area this week. Now is the time to prepare and make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

The Nashville Office of the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts a low chance of storms in Middle Tennessee late Monday evening. If storms develop during the late afternoon and evening, large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats.

The severe weather potential continues through the middle of the week. Late Tuesday afternoon, there is a low chance of isolated severe storms. Main hazards from any severe storms would be damaging winds and large hail.

Wednesday afternoon and evening, a cold frontal passage will bring severe weather. The entirety of Middle Tennessee is under a slight risk (level 2/5) for severe weather with the main hazards being heavy rain, damaging winds, and large hail. There is a low-end tornado threat with storms that are able to become discrete. Stay up to date on the latest forecast information.

An NWS Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) indicates that scattered severe thunderstorms are possible, which are typically short-lived and not widespread. It represents an organized risk where a few storms may be intense, potentially producing isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, or large hail.

  • Low chance for severe storms mainly in the southwestern part of the area late this afternoon and evening. Low chance of additional cases of hail overnight across the whole area.
  • Very low chance of a strong to severe storm in the northwest late Tuesday afternoon/evening.
  • Medium chance of severe storms on Wednesday across the whole area.
    • Damaging winds and tornadoes will be the main threats
    • Current Timing: Afternoon through Midnight
  • Calmer pattern starts on Thursday
