Metro Action Ensures Nashville’s Youth Have Access to Food While School Is Out

The Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) will provide meals to locations serving youth across Davidson County beginning Monday, June 1 at 90 sites.

During the months of June and July, the MAC Summer Food Service Program provides free breakfast and lunch at locations where youth 18 years and younger gather, including community centers, apartment complexes, day camps, faith-based programs, and sports camps. All youth are eligible with no documentation required. Meals must be eaten on-site and are available Monday through Friday through the end of July.

"The Metro Action Commission's Summer Food Service Program is bridging the nutritional gap for hundreds of local youth," said Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell, "We're ensuring every child in our community has access to the fresh, healthy food they need to thrive, play, and grow all summer long."

Families can find the MAC meal sites by visiting www.nashville.gov/mac and selecting "Get Free Summer Meals for Youth."

To reach youth living in areas without safe, walkable access to meal sites, the agency also operates three mobile diners equipped with youth friendly activities and Wi-Fi to support both nutrition and learning.

"Our summer meals program is a critical part of Nashville's food security network," said MAC Executive Director Jamekia Bies. "Last year alone, we provided more than 170,000 summer meals and over 270,000 meals during the school year. These numbers show how essential consistent access is for the youth we serve."

Residents can also email Metro Action ([email protected]) or call the MAC Call Center at 615 862 8860.

MAC is one of the largest providers of summer meals in Davidson County. The program is funded through the National Summer Food Service Program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) through a grant with the Tennessee Department of Human Services.
